Not enough storage: safely free space on the computer

Both the Windows system drive and the chosen backup/export drive need free space. Archiving jobs does not shrink the database.

Steps

  1. Pause new entries if saves are failing. In File Explorer → This PC check free space on C: and the destination drive.
  2. Open Settings → System → Storage → Cleanup recommendations. Review the suggested files before removing anything; do not blindly clear Downloads or Recycle Bin.
  3. Copy unneeded personal videos or large downloads to another drive, verify the copies open, then remove only the originals you no longer need. Uninstall unused applications through Windows settings if appropriate.
  4. Never delete the ClearDesk IQ data folder, SQLite/WAL files, office-connection.json, pending queues or your only backup to make room.
  5. After freeing space, reopen the app, run Check workspace and make a test backup. If capacity remains too small, arrange a larger internal drive or external storage for backups and other files.

Check that it worked

A new save and backup complete successfully with free space remaining on the relevant drives.

Still stuck?

If these steps do not match your screen, check Company & settings for your version and whether you are using Demo, a field laptop or the office workspace. Search the displayed error or save a support report.
