Invoice tax after changing the amount or job

Suggested tax uses the accepted quote's effective tax ratio, or the company default for a manual job.

Steps

  1. On a new invoice, the suggestion starts from the selected job and amount before tax. When you change those inputs, the suggestion updates unless you have entered a manual tax amount.
  2. For a job created from an estimate, the suggestion uses total estimate tax divided by estimate price before tax. That preserves a mixed taxable/nontaxable quote on a full invoice.
  3. The Tax amount field is a money amount, not a percentage. Editing it marks it as manual. Use Recalculate suggested tax to return to the calculated suggestion.
  4. Review the tax on every progress invoice, especially if a change order has a different tax treatment. The original quote ratio cannot infer a change order's tax rules.
  5. Check accumulated rounding on the final invoice and adjust the explicit tax amount when needed.

Check that it worked

The saved invoice shows the intended amount before tax, tax amount and total. A $1,000 invoice with an explicitly entered $50 tax totals $1,050.

Still stuck?

If a calculated suggestion does not update, or a manual value is overwritten, report the invoice steps to product support.
