Steps
- Put both computers on the normal office network. Guest networks commonly isolate one computer from another.
- If one uses Ethernet and one Wi-Fi, ask whether both belong to the same trusted office network.
- Use Check connection at the host. If it fails locally, fix office sharing before investigating the router.
- If a VPN is active, ask the person who installed it whether it allows access to the office host. Do not change company VPN policy yourself.
- Across routed VPNs or separate subnets, automatic discovery may not work. Use a connection code containing a reachable office address and have the administrator allow the office port from those clients.
- Do not put the live database on a shared drive or expose the office port directly to the internet.
Check that it worked
The paired laptop reaches the host’s app, not just its IP address.
Still stuck?
Tell your administrator whether manual pairing works while discovery does not. That separates discovery filtering from an app-port or listener problem.
