Steps
- Use the displayed rounded selling price per unit when checking a line total. The program does not multiply an unrounded selling price behind the scenes.
- Direct cost is quantity times unit cost, rounded to cents for each line. Selling line totals use the rounded unit selling price times quantity, also rounded to cents.
- The program adds those line totals, applies the discount and optional minimum-profit adjustment, then calculates tax and the requested deposit.
- For mixed taxable lines, the discounted taxable share is rounded to cents before applying the tax percentage.
- Use a small fictional quote to identify the first step that differs, rather than comparing only the final total.
Check that it worked
Quantity 2.5, unit cost $9.99, overhead 0%, margin 30%, no tax or discount: direct cost $24.98, selling unit $14.28, selling line $35.70.
Still stuck?
A difference larger than the documented rounding steps deserves a product report with the fictional inputs and expected result.
