Windows calls my office Wi-Fi Public

Nearby connections can be blocked when Windows treats a trusted office network as public.

Steps

  1. First confirm that you are on your own trusted office network, not guest Wi-Fi or a public hotspot.
  2. Open Windows Settings → Network & internet. Choose Wi-Fi and the connected network’s properties, or choose Ethernet for a cable connection.
  3. If you own this computer and the network is trusted, select the Private network profile. On a managed computer, ask your administrator instead.
  4. Return to ClearDesk IQ → Office & devices → Set up office network, then Refresh nearby.
  5. Keep Windows Firewall on. The Private setting does not start office sharing by itself.

Check that it worked

Windows shows the intended profile and the app’s connection check passes.

Still stuck?

If the option is unavailable, a Windows policy may control it. Use your administrator rather than changing registry or security settings.
